Throwback to some months ago when I was privileged to attend a wonderful seminar delivered by one of the brightest Professionals from UC Berkeley, Cynthia Medina, Ph.D., here in China.
As a graduate student in one of the top schools in China, the journey has been challenging especially being a novice in the Bioinformatics field. The seminar was enlightening. It identified the stress symptoms I’ve experienced overtime which I never took seriously because I considered them as a sign of diligence 😄. I was particularly intrigued about a stressor called “the impostor syndrome”.
After joining my Research Lab, I’ve had to go through my Study plan over and over again, asking myself what I was thinking while writing it as I thought I knew so much in my field then.
I was particularly worried about not meeting up to my Professor’s expectation.
But you know what? I overcame it. Nobody knows all. It’s ok not to know, just make sure you don’t remain ignorant. The willingness to learn transcends all.
Looking back after about a year now, I can boldly say I’ve stepped up my game.
So, dear graduate student, keep learning, keep feeding your curiosity and always ensure that your hunger for knowledge remains insatiable.
